VENUE CHANGE
After a very wet 2011 SW ID Show at Stourhead, near Mere in Wiltshire, we were faced with some enormous damage done to the parkland in front of the National Trust property of Stourhead House by lorries and trailers entering and leaving the showground.
After initial restoration of the parkland by the Stourhead Show committee, further remedial action was required to restore .......
the grassland and the gravel trackway for the lorries, but ultimately a major part of the parkland will need re-seeding in the spring of 2012. The National Trust will therefore not permit access to the parkland by lorries for the 2012 Stourhead Show.
After detailed discussions with the National Trust about alternative layouts to the showground, and numerous committee meetings to consider possible alternative show sites, it has been decided that the main Stourhead Show will be suspended for 2012.
Having developed the SW ID Show significantly over the past four years, I do not want to see 2012 go by without a major ID Show for competitors in the SW and Southern regions. As such, for 2012, the SW ID Show will run as a stand-alone show, based at Wincanton Racecourse on the original date of Sunday 5th August.
I aim to run the same number of ID / IDSH classes as in 2011, but also to run a series of open show classes and dressage alongside the ID / IDSH classes to give competitors more to do during the day.
The Wincanton Racecourse site will provide the benefits of overnight stabling plus overnight B&B if required. The site is easily accessible from the A303 and is just a few minutes walk from Wincanton town centre.
I do hope that competitors and spectators will make every effort to come and support the SW ID Show in 2012 – we offer a warm welcome to everyone and will hopefully be able to invite you to a drier Pimms Picnic than was experienced in 2011!!
