IDHS(GB) BREED REGISTERS
The aim of
the IDHS(GB) is to preserve and improve the Irish Draught Horse in
England, Scotland and Wales and to promote and maintain high standards of
breeding, conformation, quality and soundness. The IDHS(GB) is dedicated
to recording ALL foals sired by Registered Irish Draught stallions. All
mare owners have the right to an official Covering Certificate on payment
of their covering fee and the Society will only record those animals that
have such a certificate.
In the year
of foaling the mare owner will be sent a foaling return card. It is most
important that these are completed and returned to the Society Office so
that fertility records can be compiled.
The
Breed Register requirements are listed below:
IDHS(GB) BREED REGISTERS
RID (Registered Irish Draught)
For Grade A mares and female progeny of RID mares by RID stallions on
inspection.
For female progeny of existing (born in or before 2000) AID mares by RID
stallions on inspection.
For males by RID stallions, out of RID mares.
AID (Appendix Register)
For existing Grade B mares and female progeny of existing (born in or before
2000) SID mares by RID stallions on inspection.
Fillies/mares with one RID parent and three RID grandparents may
also attain AID registration on inspection (in line with Ireland).
For geldings by RID stallions, out of AID mares.
If you have a colt out of an AID mare and you
wish to have him inspected as a stallion, then he is only eligible for SHR or
G2SH/G3SH Stallion status.
SID (Supplementary Register)
For existing Grade C & D mares. For geldings by RID stallions, out of SID mares.
If you have a colt out of an SID mare and you wish to have him inspected as a
stallion, then he is only eligible for SHR or G2SH/G3SH Stallion status.
Fillies born in or before 2000 by RID stallions out of Thoroughbred/Native-bred
mares, or out of RID/AID mares by Thoroughbred/Native-bred stallions registered
with a recognised Breed Society, may also attain SID registration on
inspection.
G2ID (Grade Two Irish Draught – equivalent
to Irish S1 Register)
For stallions that fail the RID conformation inspection, but pass the veterinary
inspection.
For progeny by G2ID stallions out of RID, AID, SID mares or by RID stallions out
of G2ID mares.
G3ID (Grade Three Irish Draught – equivalent
to Irish S2 Register)
For stallions that pass or fail the RID conformation inspection and fail the
veterinary inspection.
For progeny by G3ID stallions out of RID, AID, SID mares or by RID stallions out
of G3ID mares.
IDHS(GB) SPORT HORSE
REGISTERS
SHR (Sport Horse Register)
For stallions (with proven Irish Draught breeding in their pedigree) that pass
the SHR conformation inspection and pass the veterinary inspection.
For progeny by SHR or RID stallions out of non-ID mares, or out of identified
SHR or ID mares by stallions (other than G2/G3ID or G2/G3SH) registered with a
recognised Breed Society.
G2SH (Grade Two ID Sport Horse Register)
For stallions that fail the SHR conformation inspection, but pass the veterinary
inspection.
For progeny by G2SH stallions out of identified SHR or ID mares (including mares
graded RID, AID, SID).
For progeny by G2SH or G2ID stallions out of non-ID mares, or out of G2SH or
G2ID mares by any stallions (other than G3ID or G3SH).
G3SH (Grade Three Sport Horse Register)
For stallions that pass or fail the SHR conformation inspection and fail the
veterinary inspection.
For progeny by G3SH stallions out of identified SHR or ID mares (including mares
graded RID, AID, SID).
For progeny by G3SH or G3ID stallions out of non-ID mares, or out of G3SH or
G3ID mares by any stallions
All stock by un-inspected Pure Bred and
Sport Horse Irish Draught stallions will only be registered in the respective
Grade 3 registers.
MARE INSPECTIONS take place each Autumn,
for mares identified with the Society and the property of Members, at various
venues covering the whole of the country. Mares also have to be vetted at the
owner’s expense. Should a mare fail inspection the person presenting her will be
advised at the time of inspection of the reason and it is the owner’s right to
bring the mare forward again as often as he/she wishes on payment of the set fee
on each occasion.
STALLION INSPECTIONS take place each
Spring. To obtain ‘Stallion’ status all colts, 3 years old and over, must come
before an Inspection Panel, which includes a full vetting. If passed, a colt
will be issued with a Covering Book on receipt of a current CEM Certificate. Any
colt/stallion forward for his Inspection must be identified with the Society and
the property of a Member.
ANY PURE-BRED ANIMAL THAT IS NOT INSPECTED
(2 YRS FOR FEMALES, 3 YRS FOR COLTS) IS ONLY ‘IDENTIFIED’ WITH THE SOCIETY
IMPORTANT GRADING
INFORMATION
All Affiliated Shows have their wording scrutinised by the IDHS(GB) Office and
are correct. Entrants must abide by the wording. If you hold a SPORT HORSE
PASSPORT you may only enter SPORT HORSE CLASSES. If you are GRADED SID, you are
graded on to the BREED REGISTER and forfeit your SPORT HORSE status and
passport.
Many of you have misunderstood the implications
of putting forward your half-bred fillies, thinking they must be GRADED. This is
NOT so. You can stay a SPORT HORSE - grading is not mandatory. In fact, as some
of you have found out, a part bred (Graded SID) for example is totally out of
place in a show class of GRADED ID MARES. If this is the case, you MUST let the
Office know and return your GRADED passport for re-issuing as a SPORT HORSE.
The bottom line is - whatever the requirements
of the show class wording, that is the status in which you must make your
entry.
GRADING into the BREED REGISTER is intended for
those wishing to breed to the GRADE 1 RID STALLION.
So think very hard and long before committing yourself into the WRONG CATEGORY –
it will certainly affect your position in a show class of GRADED mares.
Please note – Sport Horse mares have the
same facilities to register their offspring, so they in turn will have passports
and have the benefits of authenticated pedigrees issued by the IDHS(GB).
Registration Numbers
for Colts and Geldings
Some confusion has arisen over the allocation of registration numbers for colts
and geldings eligible for the Breed Registers and it is felt that an explanation
is required:
Colt with RID Sire and Dam
At birth a colt from two RID parents will be given a registration number
beginning with an F/…./…. (standing for ‘Foal’). There will be a stamp in the
box on the front of the passport to indicate that the colt is eligible for RID
on Inspection. If passed the colt becomes an RID stallion and the registration
number is amended to RID/…./…. Alternatively, if the colt is gelded, his
passport should be returned to the Office for the registration number to be
amended to RID/ (fee £12). Geldings are not subject to inspection and this will
be indicated in the box on the front of the passport.
Colt with RID Sire and either AID or SID Dam
A colt by an RID stallion out of an AID or SID mare would only be eligible for
Inspection as an Irish Draught Sport Horse. However, in order to allow for his
registration number to be amended if he is gelded, he would still be allocated
an F/…./…. number at birth, but the letters SHR would be stamped in the
eligibility box on the front page of his passport. If gelded, he would take on
the grade of his dam, i.e. a colt out of an AID mare would become AID/…./…., and
his passport should be returned to the Office so that it can be amended (fee
£12). If, on the other hand, he comes forward for Stallion Inspection and is
passed onto the ID Sport Horse Register, he would be allocated a new SHR number
to replace the F/ number he was given at birth.
Colt not eligible for the Breed Register
If a colt is born from an SHR or RID stallion out of a non-ID mare or out of an
identified SHR or ID mare by any other stallion registered with a recognised
Breed Society, he would not be eligible for the Breed Register and would
therefore be allocated a straightforward SHR number at birth, which would remain
with him for life whether he is graded or gelded.
To summarize - ONLY colts with two RID parents are eligible for grading
as RID stallions. Colts by RID stallions out of AID and SID mares are ONLY
eligible for the Irish Draught Sport Horse Register.
