President's Last
Message FORGIVE
ME if I use this space to say a BIG thank you and goodbye to all loyal
Members of the IDHS (GB). In 2011 I shall be celebrating my 80th birthday -
and we all have a shelf-space time. My time is up.Reaching back to 1979, that space has filled my life with lasting memories. At the beginning, with that excitement and focus which happens with all new adventures, to dedication and hard work which comes with making something work for all Members. I am a believer in systems that are understood and welcomed by the majority; where 'simple' means 'easily' understood and 'less is more'. These times have gone. For the future of the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) I send any newly appointed candidate my good wishes. I hope they can see their way to listening, representing and serving the Society and the wonderful horse we know as Irish Draught. I have been jeered at by some for not being 'cool', but not everyone is coming up to 80, with no e-mail. computer or internet (am I not lucky?). Only with the good, old-fashioned telephone and the power of my pen can I remain true to myself. A President does not run the Society, they merely represent it. I have done my representing in my own way, wearing my own hat, 'hands-on' and listening to our Membership wherever possible; having confidence in my own judgement. I have always been a realist, an optimist, a mediator, a workman and, above all, just another Member - I hope always with a smile. So, I say GOODBYE and thank you all for being so supportive over the years.
