A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE IRISH DRAUGHT HORSE SOCIETY
All
good things must have a good secure foundation
Those interested in breeding horses naturally want to start
with a sound foundation in order to appeal to thousands of competitors in
horse trials, show jumping, riding clubs and pleasure riding and many other
activities. The IRISH DRAUGHT is indisputably just that - a sound foundation.
The breed has been used for hundreds of years, needs no introduction and
its success is well tested and proven.
Those interested in buying horses will appreciate the rugged aspect of this
horse, his desire to do a job, his willingness to please, his longevity,
and his durability under modern competitive conditions. His temperament
is very "people orientated", and his conformation is ideally put
together for him to turn his natural talent to any activity asked of him.
Even at the highest levels of competitive work to have IRISH DRAUGHT in
the pedigree at foundation level is a much sought after criteria. He will
introduce strength and power, good limbs and wonderful temperament.
The breeder of pure IRISH DRAUGHTS has the enormous satisfaction and responsibility
of following bloodlines and pedigrees to influence the future of this, now
rare, breed. Every successful task must surely have as its priority, a sound
foundation to build on. Those that breed pure IRISH DRAUGHTS have a very
balanced awareness of the good traits they are trying to secure for future
generations of both pure and part bred.
Having bred IRISH DRAUGHT for 27 years and given my all to this wonderful
horse, I can honestly say it has shaped my life for the better, and the
progeny I have bred, including many stallions, have brought their owners
marvellous entertainment, pleasure and many friendships.
