Irish Draught Sport Horse Registers

Irish Draught Sport Horse Stallions are listed here

The DHS(GB) aim in this register is to highlight and identify horses that ultimately achieve credits in the competing world that are carrying Irish Draught ancestry and to which their talents and the Society can lay claim and substantiate with relevant documentation. For the progeny of RID or SHR graded stallions out of any other breed/cross bred mare or out of any ID graded or SHR registered mare by any other breed/cross bred stallion.

When using a Registered ID Stallion (RID) or an ID Sport Horse Stallion (SHR) official Society covering certificates will be issued and the mare owner has the right to collect such certificate on payment of the stud fee.

The IDHS(GB) is dedicated to recording ALL foals and mare owners are urged to complete their foaling return cards. It is most important that these are returned to the Society offices so that fertility records can be compiled.

MARE STATUS:
There is NO female ID Sport Horse inspection.

STALLION STATUS:
1. SHR - Partbred complying with the requirements as set out in the first paragraph above, with documented ID pedigree of RID, AID, SID mares or RID stallion.

2. SHR - Purebred - not having reached the RID criteria required for type, bone, height or colour.

3. G2SH - Partbred complying with the requirements as set out in the first paragraph above, with documented ID pedigree of RID, AID, SID mares or RID stallion - that has failed the conformation/type inspection but has passed the vetting.

4. G3SH - Partbred complying with the requirements as set out in the first paragraph above, with documented ID pedigree of RID, AID, SID mares or RID stallion - that has failed the conformation/type inspection and the vetting.

NOTE
Progeny of G2SH Sire or Dam is eligible for registration on the G2SH register only.
Progeny of G3SH Sire or Dam is eligible for registration on the G3SH register only.

ID Sport Horse Stallions are inspected using the same panel of inspectors and passed using exactly the same veterinary procedures as the Irish Draught sector, they then receive a full ID Sport Horse Passport on passing. The progeny of all ID Sport Horse identified mares will be recorded in one of the ID Sport Horse Registers, Grade 1 (SHR), Grade 2 (G2SH) or Grade 3 (G3SH).

The Society encourages owners to put their stallions forward for the National Stallion Association's Performance Test. This is normally conducted mid-summer and is geared to young horses, ideally at 5/6 years stallions would complete this test.

It is cheaper to register with the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) and to have the IDHS(GB) passport overstamped by the British Horse Data Base (BHD) than to register direct with the British Horse Database.

IRISH DRAUGHT BREED REGISTERS

The aim of the IDHS(GB) is to preserve and improve the Irish Draught Horse in England, Scotland and Wales and to promote and maintain high standards of breeding, conformation, quality and soundness.

The IDHS(GB) is dedicated to recording ALL foals sired by Registered Irish Draught stallions. All mare owners have the right to an official covering certificate on payment of their covering fee and the Society will only record those animals that have such a certificate. In the year of foaling the mare owner will be sent a foaling return card, it is most important that these are completed and returned to the Society office so that fertility records can be compiled.

All foals out of ID graded mares and by RID stallions are then recorded. From 2 years old fillies are eligible to come forward for grading by the Society, these are normally conducted during the summer months. Similarly colts (both parents RID) are eligible for presentation in early Spring of their third year. On passing they are then allocated their appropriate grade register. To assist you the Breed Register requirements are listed below:

RID Registered Irish Draught
RID STALLION Both parents to be RID
RID FEMALE Both parents to be RID and the female progeny of an AID mare & RID stallion
AID Appendix Irish Draught - Sire to be RID, progeny of SID mare
SID Supplementary Irish Draught - One parent to be RID/AID, the other to contain no blood other than native breed of the UK or Southern Ireland origin or Thoroughbred, Arab or Anglo Arab.

NOTE the SID register is now closed, in line with Ireland.
Partbred filly foals born from 2001 will only be accepted onto the ID SHR Register.

G2ID Grade Two Irish Draught. For Stallions who have failed the conformation/type
inspection but have passed the vetting. For progeny by a G2ID stallion or out of a
G2ID dam.

G3ID Grade Three Irish Draught. For stallions who failed both the conformation/type
inspection and the vetting. For progeny by a G3ID stallion or out of a G3ID dam.

STALLIONS are inspected from 3 years of age. Entry into ALL registers is conditional on passing veterinary examination and panel inspection, not as a right.

The Society encourages owners to put their stallions forward for the National Stallion Association's Performance Test. This is normally conducted mid-summer and is geared to young horses, ideally at 5/6 years stallions would complete this test.
